Dragišnica and Komarnica Nature Park is located in the far northwest of the Šavnik municipality, bordering Durmitor National Park, and includes the cadastral areas of Grabovica, Komarnica, Duži, and Pošćenje.
This protected area is classified as Category III under national regulations and Category V according to the IUCN. It spans 2,994 hectares, with elevations ranging from 650 to 1,998 meters.
Two rivers, the Komarnica and the Grabovica, flow through the park, carving dramatic canyon landscapes and offering breathtaking natural scenes. One of the park’s most renowned jewels is the Nevidio Canyon — the last discovered canyon in Europe — famous for its inaccessible terrain and mystical beauty. The Komarnica River nearly disappears into this canyon, and passing through it is an unforgettable adventure for adrenaline seekers. Because of the canyon’s extreme conditions, proper equipment and an experienced guide are essential, but the experience is unique and unforgettable.
In addition to the canyon, the park’s landscape is enriched by the Boljske Grede ridge, along with expansive forests and pastures that host more than 1,000 plant species and subspecies, 65 species of fungi, 40 species of mammals, 64 species of birds, and 18 species of amphibians and reptiles. Another highlight is the Skakavica Waterfall, approximately 70 meters high, which is most spectacular during snowmelt and after heavy rainfall, and in winter freezes into a stunning and challenging attraction for climbers.
The highest peak in the park is Ogorjeli Krš (1,998 m), offering sweeping views of the canyons, ridges, and mountain plateaus.
Dragišnica and Komarnica Nature Park is an ideal destination for adventure enthusiasts, hikers, and nature explorers, as well as for anyone wishing to escape city life and enjoy untouched nature. Nevidio Canyon, Boljske Grede, and the Komarnica and Grabovica rivers form an essential route for every visitor, while the park’s rich flora and fauna further emphasize its uniqueness and importance.
