In Petnjica, near Šavnik, there is a monument to Vuk Stefanović Karadžić – linguist, philologist, anthropologist, writer, translator, and academic who traces his origin to this village. Vuk Karadžić is considered the most important linguist of the 19th century. He was a visionary, a reformer, a collector of folk wisdom, and a tireless seeker of national identity through customs, songs, stories, and folk creations. He traveled, recorded, studied, and taught others. Thanks to his work, many precious fragments of everyday life of that time have been preserved.
