The Bukovica River springs in the village of Provalija, near the Ivica tunnel on the Šavnik–Žabljak road. Its hidden source forms a small lake called “Glava Bukovice,” at an altitude of 1,350 meters. The Bukovica has a course of more than 40 kilometers. At the very beginning of its flow, with its winding meanders, the Bukovica creates an unreal beauty hidden among pastures and willow groves. After passing the village of Bukovica, nestled within a beech forest just below the Šavnik–Timar–Boan road, it continues toward its confluence with the Tušina River.

Not far downstream from the confluence lies “Sige,” a beautiful waterfall located near the Podmalinsko Monastery.

Deeply carved between rocks, the Bukovica flows through a stunning canyon toward the town of Šavnik. Along this 9-kilometer stretch, one is left breathless by the surreal beauty of the nature, the terrain, and the river itself. The canyon’s diverse terrain makes it an ideal habitat for brown trout, which is one of the reasons why the Bukovica is very rich in this species. During the fishing season, trophy specimens weighing five kilograms or more can be caught in the river. As it passes through the town of Šavnik, the Bukovica creates a spectacular sight in every season. Within the town, at the confluence, the Bijela River and the small Šavnik River flow into the Bukovica, and together they continue their course toward the village of Pridvorica and further on, together with the Komarnica River, to Duba and Lake Piva.
