Rivers and canyons

Wild beauty carved in stone and water

The town of Šavnik lies in a small valley at the foot of the mountains, at the confluence of three rivers, the Bukovica, the Bijela, and the small river Šavnik, which shares its name with the town.

In addition to these three rivers, the municipality of Šavnik is also traversed by the Tušinja, Komarnica, and Grabovica rivers. All of them belong to the A1 water quality category.

Our rivers are rich in native fish species characteristic of the Black Sea basin, including brown trout and grayling. Besides these indigenous species, there are also non-native trout species, such as rainbow trout, due to the presence of three fish farms engaged in the production and cultivation of rainbow trout. The Bukovica River is the largest and longest river within the Šavnik municipality.
